Choose the games you like, then check the casino's money rules. RTG, Rival, Playtech and Microgaming can help you narrow the game search. We'd compare the account, banking and phone access before letting a familiar software name decide where you register.

Who runs your account?

Start with who runs your account. A software logo tells you about some of the games, but you'll need the casino's own terms for deposits, withdrawals and document checks. Write down the company and website address so you know where to direct an account question.

Next, choose the guide that matches what you're trying to understand. If it's a game name, start with the supplier guide.

If it's a download or an old mobile link, look at the access format and device requirements first. You don't need to become a software expert to make a useful comparison: keep the game, the casino and your phone as separate parts of the decision.

If you are still choosing how to play on a phone, begin with the mobile casino guide, which covers browsers, web apps, documents and cashier screens. Come back here when a specific name needs explaining.

Which software guide do you need?

Use the table to find the right starting point, then follow the guide for your chosen name. Don't feel you need to read every supplier page before comparing casinos. Focus on the games you want and the account conditions you'll have to use.

What does RTG offer?

Realtime Gaming, usually shortened to RTG, supplies casino software. Your account is with the casino using it.

If you're asking about registration, identity documents, a bonus balance or a withdrawal, use that casino's support route and keep your account reference ready. The game's provider name can help describe the query, but it isn't a substitute for the casino's company details.

RTG lists mobile, instant-play and download products on its website. Some descriptions still mention Flash, so use the casino's current access instructions instead of installing old browser technology. Springbok's RTG page names Cleopatra's Gold and Bubble Bubble; its Android page describes mobile-browser access that works like an app rather than a store download.

Check the title in the casino lobby, then read its own rules before you play. For the account side, read the cashier and terms separately. Our RTG guide covers slot rules, table games and what to save when a round is interrupted.

How do you access Rival games?

Rival's supplier website is rivalpowered.com. Check the address when you follow a link, especially if another site has a similar name.

Rival describes mobile and desktop games delivered through a web lobby, a progressive web app or integration with another platform. Your casino's instructions tell you which route it uses and where to sign in.

Check the account rules before treating several Rival casinos as a shared wallet. If brands are described as a network, find out whether your login, balance or exclusion carries across them.

When a mobile link redirects, keep the starting address, destination and explanation together. Don't open another account until you've checked any restrictions on multiple registrations.

Our Rival guide also covers language support, promotion rules that belong to the campaign rather than the supplier, and the difference between a player-facing app and mobile reporting tools.

Which Playtech product are you using?

Playtech offers casino content, live products and player-account management. A casino using Playtech may use games, a wider platform or another component.

Start with the company holding your funds, then look at which Playtech product the casino describes. That keeps your game questions and account questions going to the right place.

Playtech advertises configurable content and a customisable native casino app. Follow your casino's own app instructions to find out whether it offers one for your account and location.

If a page mentions a single wallet or personalised messages, check the account rules behind it. You shouldn't assume those features work the same way at every casino using the platform.

The Playtech guide looks at jackpot branding, live dealer products and the small-screen questions that follow from them. Our live dealer mobile guide covers the streaming side in more detail.

Why has the Microgaming name changed?

On 3 May 2022, Games Global announced its operational launch after acquiring Microgaming's distribution business, game intellectual property, progressive jackpot network and interests in game studios. This explains why you may see older Microgaming references alongside Games Global names. Keep the date in mind when an old review describes a game you're looking for today.

The former microgaming.co.uk address redirects to microgaming.io, which presents a games business under the Microgaming name. Its terms address businesses and say it doesn't provide real-money gambling services to individual players.

Apricot describes its own platform technology. For your account, return to the casino's agreement; for a game, look at its current title and provider credit.

If an older review calls a site a Microgaming casino, check the exact game you want in its current lobby. Compare the rules and version before carrying details over from the review. Our Microgaming guide explains the names, progressive jackpots and how to tell a coming-soon title from one already available.

What do WAP and HTML5 mean?

Not every label on a casino list is a supplier. WAP and HTML5 describe technology, not a company, and they are often used as if they were quality categories.

WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. The Open Mobile Alliance archive holds the WAP Forum specifications, including WAP 2.0. You may meet the name in older casino articles or links. A narrow-screen layout or the letters wap in an address won't tell you whether the site uses that old standard today. Our WAP guide explains what to check before following an old mobile link.

HTML5 describes browser-based game delivery without a separate install. It can help you understand how you reach a game, but you'll still need the casino's account and payment terms. Our HTML5 casinos page explains the label. If it's the main selling point on a casino page, look next for supported browsers, game rules and the cashier instructions you need.

What should you check at the casino?

A supplier label can narrow your search to games you already like. Here is what it cannot decide, however well known the name is.

  • The contract. Your agreement is with the operator. The terms, the legal entity and the complaints route are the operator’s.
  • The bonus. Wagering, game weighting, maximum bet and expiry belong to the promotion. The same slot can count differently at two casinos.
  • Payments. Deposit and withdrawal routes, limits and fees are operator decisions. See our banking guides for how to compare them.
  • Verification. Document checks follow the operator’s account rules, not the software.
  • Local authorisation. A supplier’s licence, if it has one, does not authorise a particular casino to serve South African players.
  • Your device. Whether a site runs on your phone depends on your operating system and browser. See our guides for phones and tablets.

Read each item in the casino's own terms before deciding. If an answer is missing, ask a specific question about your account or chosen game. You don't have to fill the gap with a guess based on a familiar logo.

How do you compare casinos?

If you want to compare two casinos that use the same or different suppliers, keep a record with separate fields. It takes a few minutes and it stops a familiar logo from filling gaps.

Fields to record, and where each answer comes from
FieldWhere to lookDo not take from
Operator company and domainThe operator’s legal and terms pagesA supplier logo
Game and versionThe game’s own rules screenA review screenshot
Access formatThe operator’s own instructions and where the mobile link leadsAn app badge
Bonus termsThe promotion’s terms and the cashierThe supplier’s marketing
Payment routesThe operator’s banking page, read against your bankA generic list of accepted methods
Date of each observationYour own noteMemory

The date column matters more than it looks. Casino pages change without notice, and a note that says what you read and when is a far better basis for a complaint or a decision than a recollection.

Can you rely on an old software list?

Check the date on an older casino list before following its advice. Software names and ownership can change, as the Microgaming history shows.

If a guide mentions Flash or promises that every game works on every phone, go to the casino's current access page. Don't weaken your device protections to recreate an old setup.

Compare the games you'll actually use rather than the biggest catalogue total. Search for each full title, open its rules and check its place in any bonus you want.

For mobile access, make sure you can read your balance, stake and account menus. That gives you a more useful basis for a choice than a broad claim about smooth play.

For a claim you want to rely on, ask when it was written, which casino and game it describes, and where you can read the details yourself. Save the relevant page with a date if it affects your decision. You'll have something specific to refer to if the wording changes later.

South African rules and help

The National Gambling Board distinguishes licensed online betting from prohibited interactive online casino gambling in South Africa. A supplier logo, foreign licence or rand display doesn't change that position. Read our guides for more on the local rules, and check the casino's terms for its accepted countries before making an account decision.

Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over, and individual operators may set stricter limits. It is entertainment with a cost, not a way to earn money.

Set a deposit limit before you start and keep it, do not chase losses, and stop if play stops being enjoyable. If gambling is causing harm, the National Gambling Board lists the responsible-gambling helpline on 0800 006 008, and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation can also help.

Your questions answered

Does the software provider decide which bonus I get?

No. Bonuses are set by the casino. A supplier may affect which games are available for clearing wagering, but the amount, the conditions and the expiry come from the operator’s promotion terms.

Is one supplier safer than another?

A supplier name isn't a shortcut to choosing a casino you can trust. Check the casino's company, licence scope, account terms, document process and payout rules. If you're unhappy with those answers, a game you recognise shouldn't persuade you to overlook them.

Do I need an app for any of these suppliers?

Not necessarily. Several suppliers describe browser or web-app delivery, and Springbok describes mobile-browser access rather than a store download.

Check your casino's instructions before installing anything. If you can't trace a download back to that route, leave it alone and ask support for the correct access page.

Can a WAP casino still be used on an old phone?

Check whether your phone can run a browser the casino currently supports. An old WAP reference doesn't answer that question. If your device can't use a supported browser, don't look for workarounds that weaken its protections just to enter account details.

Why does a game I know look different at another casino?

The same game can be presented through different lobbies and integrations, and the operator sets its own rules for bonuses and limits around it. Open the game’s rules screen to check the version.
