Guides to get you started

Where should you start?

Start with what you actually want from a casino. CasinoMenu is a place to read reviews and guides before you hand over any money, and it won't try to sell you on the first site you see.

Maybe you want a casino that plays in rand. Maybe you care most about how you get paid, or whether the games run on your phone. Maybe you just want to know what a welcome bonus will really ask of you. Those are different questions, so pick the guide that matches yours, then read the casino's review with that question in mind.

One thing to know: being listed here doesn't mean we think a casino is right for you. South African law only allows licensed online sports betting, so online casinos aren't covered by a local licence. Read the licence note in each review and decide for yourself.

It's also fine to walk away. If you can't tell what happens to your deposit, which rules apply or how to complain, don't sign up. A slick logo and a big bonus don't answer those questions.

How do you compare bonuses properly?

Don't compare headline numbers. Compare what you have to do to get them. The first thing to check is whether the amount is for one deposit or spread over several. A package like "up to R11,500" can mean three separate deposits, and you can stop after the first one.

Next, look at the wagering. This is how many times you must play the money through before you can cash out. It matters whether the multiplier applies to the bonus only or to your deposit plus the bonus. Here's a worked example using Springbok's first stage. You deposit R1,500 and get a R1,500 bonus. At 30 times deposit plus bonus, you need to place R90,000 in bets (R3,000 x 30) before the bonus money can be withdrawn. If the same 30x applied to the bonus only, it would be R45,000.

Then check the small print that catches people out. Which games count towards wagering, and how much? What's the biggest bet you're allowed while a bonus is active? At Springbok it's R100 per bet. Does a code need to be entered before you deposit? What happens if you withdraw early? Don't assume bonus money is cash just because it sits next to your deposit.

Free spins need their own look. The number of spins tells you nothing until you know the value per spin, the game they're tied to, how long they last and whether winnings are capped. Our bonus guides walk you through the questions worth asking.

Will you actually be able to withdraw?

A quick deposit is only half the story. Before you pay in, find out how you'd get your money out. Some methods work for deposits only, and some casinos make you withdraw by bank transfer even if you paid by card. A row of payment logos doesn't tell you any of that, so look for the casino's banking page.

Work in rand where you can. Write down the amount that leaves your bank account, not just the balance on the casino screen. Ask whether there are fees, conversion costs or limits on your method. Springbok, for example, plays in rand only, which keeps that part simple.

Timing is the next thing to check. The casino's own processing time and your bank's time are two separate waits. Look for when the clock starts, whether your documents need to be approved first and whether weekends or public holidays slow things down. "Fast payouts" on a banner is worth less than a clear timetable.

Finally, be careful with your ID. Most casinos will ask for a copy of your ID and proof of address before your first withdrawal. Only upload documents inside the casino's own account area, and check the web address first. Never send ID, passwords or bank details to us. We can't approve an account or release a payment. Our banking section helps you prepare, and the rest is between you and the casino.

Can you play properly on your phone?

Most of us play on a phone, so a site that merely loads isn't enough. Check that you can read the full terms, find your limits, reach support and use the cashier without buttons hiding behind other buttons. Big tables can get squashed on a small screen, so turn your phone sideways or open the full terms page if something looks cut off.

Work out whether the casino runs in your browser or wants you to download an app. Don't assume there's an official app, and don't install anything from a link on some other site. If you do want an app, get it from the casino's own website.

Think about your data and battery too. Load-shedding or a flat battery in the middle of a session is no fun, so make sure you can stop without feeling rushed. If your connection drops or your balance looks odd, don't top up to "fix" it. Contact the casino's support first and check your account history.

How should you read a casino review?

Treat a review as a checklist, not a promise. A casino's promotions page shows what it advertises, while the full offer terms list the restrictions. The banking page may quote processing times, but that doesn't guarantee your own withdrawal will go the same way.

That's why our reviews stick to what the casino publishes and say plainly when something isn't listed. If a casino doesn't publish a number, we leave it out instead of guessing. You'll also see the date each page was updated. Offers change fast, so before you act, open the casino's current terms and make sure they apply to you.

We may earn a commission when you use a casino link, and we don't hide that. The review link and the casino link are separate, so you can read first and leave the site only when you choose to. A commission doesn't make a casino risk-free. We don't show star scores on these cards, and the order isn't a prediction of what you'll win.

How do you set limits that work?

Decide your limits before you look at any offer. Pick an amount you can lose after rent, food, transport and your other bills are paid. Pick a time limit too. Keep both completely separate from any bonus.

If an offer's minimum deposit is more than your budget, the offer doesn't fit your budget. Don't raise your budget to chase a promotion.

Decide what "stopping" means before you start. Limits you keep changing after a loss don't protect you. Don't borrow, don't use money set aside for bills and don't treat another deposit as a way to win back the last one. Gambling is never a way to earn income or fix money problems.

If it's getting hard to stop, put the offers aside and use our responsible gambling resources. You can ask a casino to limit or close your account, and it's smart to keep a copy of your request. If gambling is hurting you or the people who depend on you, getting help matters more than looking for a different site.

Common questions

Does being listed mean CasinoMenu recommends a casino?

No. The directory helps you find reviews. Read each review, check the casino's current terms and decide for yourself. A listing isn't a local licence and isn't a promise that you'll be paid.

Why are there separate review and casino links?

The review gives you context on CasinoMenu. The casino link takes you to another site, where its own rules and account process apply. We may earn a commission from that link. You can read everything here without clicking it.

Should you always take the welcome bonus?

Not necessarily. Read the conditions first and ask yourself if you'd still play without the bonus. A big headline number doesn't tell you whether the rules suit your budget, your games or your time. Skipping a bonus is a perfectly good choice.

Can CasinoMenu help you get a withdrawal released?

No. We don't control casino accounts or payments. Contact the casino through its support channel, keep your records and use its complaints process if you need to. Please don't send us passwords, bank logins or ID documents.

How do you report a mistake in a review?

Email hello@seomighty.com with the page address, the line you think is wrong and a link to the casino's own page if you have one. Leave out account numbers and other private details. A clear link makes a fix quicker.
