Want to play on your phone?

Want to play on your phone? Start with browser access, readable controls and a connection you can rely on. We'd check the cashier and withdrawal terms on the same small screen before choosing a game.

Where should you start?

You can use a mobile casino through your phone or tablet's browser, or through an app where the operator offers one. Some browser versions open like an app from your home screen. Check which route the casino supports on your device before you download anything.

Choose the guide that matches your phone first, then check the games you want to play. Can you read the full rules without zooming, change the stake easily and find your balance? If a button is hidden or a payment page won't fit, sort that out before putting money into the account.

Where to find each guide

Start with the mobile casinos hub. For device-specific points, see the guides for Android, iPhone and iPad. For software, see HTML5 casinos and the pages by software supplier.

If you want live tables on a phone, read the live dealer mobile guide. For offers that don't need a deposit, see mobile casinos with no deposit, where we explain how to read the terms.

Browser play, web apps and apps

A web app is a website you add to your home screen so it opens like an app. Apple and Google explain how to do this, while Mozilla lists its mobile browser requirements. A native app is a separate installation, and availability depends on the operator and your platform. Springbok's Android page describes browser access that behaves like an app; follow those instructions if that's the route you're using.

Browser play avoids installing software, which lowers the risk of installing something unsafe. If a site asks you to install a file from outside an official store, stop and check who published it.

Data, battery and connection

Casino pages and live streams use mobile data. A slot session uses much less than a live video table, and a weak connection can cause a game to pause or reload. If your data is capped, check usage before you play and prefer wifi for streams. Keep your phone charged, since long sessions drain the battery quickly.

Mobile networks change as you move, so a round can be interrupted by a connection drop. Read how the casino treats an interrupted round in its terms before you stake real money.

Software updates matter too. Keep your phone and browser up to date, because the web-app and browser features that casinos rely on change between versions, and Mozilla notes minimum system versions for its mobile browser. If a game will not load, update first, then try another browser before you contact support.

Safety on a small screen

A small screen makes it easy to miss details such as terms links, bet size controls and balances. Slow down when you confirm a deposit, check the amount and the payment method, and avoid public wifi for payments. Use a screen lock and never save a banking password in a shared browser.

Most important, keep control of spending. A phone is always in your pocket, which makes impulsive deposits easy. Set a deposit limit with the operator and with your bank where possible.

Notifications deserve the same care. A casino that sends frequent prompts about bonuses is asking you to return, and each return is another chance to spend. Turn off marketing notifications you did not ask for, and treat any message that creates urgency, such as an offer ending in minutes, as a reason to pause rather than to act. If you share a device, remove saved payment details.

The legal position

The National Gambling Board's FAQ states that online gambling is not legal in South Africa unless authorised under the National Gambling Act or another national law, and that betting with a licensed South African bookmaker is lawful. Playing from a phone changes nothing about that. Check an operator's licence, and where it applies, before you deposit. If gambling stops being fun, the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation helpline is 0800 006 008 (the number the National Gambling Board publishes), and our responsible gambling page explains how to set limits and self-exclude.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app to play on my phone?

Not necessarily. Many operators offer play in a mobile browser. Check the operator's own page for what it provides.

Is it safe to install a casino app from a link?

Check the publisher and use the operator's own instructions to find the correct store listing. Don't install a file from an unsolicited message, and stop if it asks for permissions you don't understand.

Do mobile bonuses differ from desktop ones?

Sometimes. Read the terms of the specific offer, because device restrictions are possible.

How much data does a live table use?

Watch your phone's data counter while a stream is open. Video can use much more data than a slot, so don't assume your remaining bundle will last through a live session.
